Troy McWhinney established McWhinney, a fully integrated real estate development, investment and management company, with his brother Chad and father, Derek, in 1991. For more than 20 years, Troy has played an integral role in developing and planning over 6,000 acres of land and has developed more than 6 million square feet of office, industrial, medical, retail and residential properties, including over 1,700 multifamily apartment homes with a total value in excess of $1 billion. He and his brother Chad create large-scale, multi-use projects, including the award-winning 3,000-acre Centerra master-planned community in Loveland and the 935-acre mixed-use North Park community in Broomfield.
As the Co-Founder, Troy leads the development, strategy and implementation plans for McWhinney. In addition, he is responsible for developing new capital opportunities and manages all new and existing investor relations. Troy’s leadership and attention to detail help guide the company toward its purpose of creating great places for people.
Troy has received entitlements for over 5,500 acres of land in Colorado, consisting of more than 14,000 residential units and 20 million square feet of commercial development at full build-out. Troy’s long-term vision helps position McWhinney as an evergreen company, one that prospers in all phases of the real estate cycle and develops “win-win” business strategies.
Troy has been named NAIOP Developer/Owner of the Year by the National Association of Industrial & Office Properties – Colorado Chapter, and Bravo! Entrepreneur of the Year by the Northern Colorado Business Report. He has previously served as a Board Member for the Boys and Girls Club of Larimer County and the Chairman for the City of Loveland’s Construction Advisory Board.
