BROOMFIELD, COLO. — January 7, 2013 – University of Colorado Health (UCHealth) recently purchased 66 acres from McWHINNEY at its developing North Park mixed-use community in Broomfield, Colo. UCHealth is planning a medical campus that will provide the highest quality medical services for the growing communities of the north Denver metro area.

McWHINNEY’s North Park, comprised of 935 acres, strategically positioned west of I-25, between Highway 7 and Northwest Parkway/E-470, with the addition of the UCHealth medical campus, is primed to become a central location for advances in medicine, applied research, technology and science.

“UCHealth is a world-class medical leader and great addition to North Park,” said Chad McWhinney, McWHINNEY CEO and co-Founder. “There’s already a need for increased medical care in this area and that need will continue to grow significantly as the area’s population explodes over the next two decades. The UCHealth medical campus will be located across from the existing Children’s Hospital Colorado’s North Campus on Highway 7. Children’s Hospital Colorado is already an important partner of UCHealth in other locations, and having adult care across the street from pediatric services is a good fit for local residents and surrounding areas.

UCHealth will examine the current and future healthcare needs of the community to decide what services to provide at the North Park location. Just over 400,000 people currently live within a 10-mile radius of North Park, and that population is expected to grow to 845,000 by 2030.

Anticipating those healthcare needs, the UCHealth board of directors approved the purchase of this land in Aug. 2012. “The population and the needs of neighborhoods north of Denver are growing rapidly, and this property allows UCHealth to provide some of the nation’s highest-quality healthcare to meet those needs,” said UCHealth President Rulon Stacey. “We’ll be listening closely to the community as we now decide what services should be offered at North Park to meet the needs of this area.”

The North Park development, owned and developed by McWHINNEY, is currently home to Prospect Ridge Academy (PRA), a 45,000-square-foot charter school that opened in 2012 and plans to expand to accommodate grades 9-12 in the near future. PRA is located immediately adjacent to the Anthem/Pulte residential community, one of the fast-growing communities in Colorado.

North Park continues to serve as an ideal mixed-use community location with direct connection to downtown Denver, close proximity to Denver International Airport (DIA) and Boulder with access to major Front Range universities and regional attractions. North Park is zoned and ready for additional development with plans to include 6,200 residential living units, direct access to shopping and dining, and natural open spaces and trails, in addition to a walkable urban core business district.
