To complement the needs of our growing communities, McWHINNEY develops hospitality projects with leading hotel industry partners across the western region and in other key markets.

In 2016, McWHINNEY entered into a long-term investment partnership with Sage Hospitality. After partnering with Sage on several projects, including Denver’s Union Station and The Crawford Hotel, Dairy Block and The Maven Hotel, the AC Portland and The Elizabeth Hotel in Ft. Collins, the two company’s similar values, culture and vision, made a synergistic partnership more than logical. The partnership has allowed McWHINNEY to continue our purpose of creating great places for people and our promise of providing fabled experiences.

Current projects include a partnership with Hyatt Hotels Corporation to develop a 294-key Hyatt Place hotel in the Seaport District of Boston, MA. The hotel will be complemented by 6,500 sq. ft. of retail restaurant space, a lobby bar, outdoor patio, top floor pool, top floor fitness center, and rooftop deck, along with numerous amenities to enhance the guest experience. Hyatt House at DIA is a recent hospitality acquisition close to Denver International Airport. The hotel offers 123 guest rooms featuring pillow-top Hyatt Grand Beds® and fully equipped kitchens. Courtyard by Marriott is a new hospitality project being developed at Highway 34 and Centerra Parkway. The hotel will offer 101 guest rooms with quality finishes and a host of unique amenities.

Recently completed projects include the Maven Hotel at Dairy Block, a vibrant independent hotel concept that features an energetic lobby designed by Crème, Jun Aizaki Architecture and Design. The lobby eliminates traditional boundaries, creating a unique connection between The Alley and the hotel, an inviting space that welcomes both locals and visitors. The Elizabeth Hotel is located in the heart of Old Town and conveniently situated at the corner of Chesnut Street and Mountain Avenue. The soft branded hotel offers 164 guest rooms with quality finishes and unique amenities, a rooftop bar, lobby bar and an onsite restaurant created by Sage Restaurant Group. The 13-story Marriott-branded AC Portland Hotel opened in February 2017 and added 204 guest rooms to Portland’s inventory. AC Hotel Portland blends contemporary styles with cosmopolitan sophistication and a dash of eccentricity in true Portland form. The design is crisp and clean, featuring a carefully curated selection of artwork and unique sculptures from local artists. In 2016, McWHINNEY returned to its Southern California roots with the development of a 12-acre indoor water park resort and conference center in partnership with Great Wolf Lodge and the City of Garden Grove, two miles from Disneyland and the Anaheim Convention Center. The resort features 603 hotel rooms, a three-acre indoor water park, over 20,000 square feet of conference space and 18,000 square-feet of premier retail and dining options.

Some of McWHINNEY’s earliest hospitality efforts included a joint venture with Stonebridge Companies that saw the development of six hospitality projects totaling 507,603 square feet and 772 rooms. Three of these hotels were built in Colorado at Centerra. The Residence Inn, Fairfield Inn & Suites, and the Hampton Inn & Suites are all conveniently located at the Interstate 25 and U.S. 34 interchange. In Southern California, McWHINNEY worked with the City of Garden Grove and Stonebridge to redevelop a 28-acre site into a vibrant mixed-use center that draws tourists from nearby Disneyland. The Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn & Suites, and Homewood Suites were planned adjacent to four high-quality restaurants, creating a great experience and some of the highest occupancy rates and sales in the area.
