Karen Fisher

Karen recently completed a commission for a film producer in Boulder, CO, creating five mixed media portraits of Ugandan refugees for a documentary that will be released in 2017. She is also working on a commission creating illustrations for Central City Opera’s 2017 season. In the next year, Karen plans to teach an atelier workshop at the Art Students League in Denver, and she has two upcoming shows at Helikon Gallery in Denver and the Creative Framing and Art Gallery in Louisville, CO.

Karen Fisher works primarily in 2D mixed media using acrylic paint and found papers. She is greatly influenced by the fashion world, mythology, and nature and the human figure. Her work combines a photo-transfer process with hand-painted elements, juxtaposing hard-edge graphics with loose brushwork. She aims to create works that are highly gestural and use collage elements that render movement in the figure.
