Construction on luxury apartments in Westminster has begun north of the Orchard Town Center, west of Interstate 25 at 144th Avenue.
Arbour Square, being developed by Loveland-based McWhinney, is on approximately 6.75 acres and will include 300 rental units of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartment homes.
McWhinney’s senior director of multifamily development and operations, Mike Hill, said the $45 million project will be completed by May 2012, but preleasing of the apartments will begin in summer 2011.
“We anticipate filling a much-needed gap in the market for an urban town center and a resortstyle rental product that currently does not exist in the area,” Hill said.
The general contractor is Milender White Construction of Arvada. McWhinney purchased the land from Forest City, which owns and operates Orchard Town Center.
Mac Cummins, planning manager for Westminster, said the apartments will be an excellent addition to the site. He said discussions about bringing residential units to the site began over a year ago.
“In the long term, this is a good thing. It shows there is development activity beginning to start back up, and we are very excited it’s happening in Westminster,” Cummins said.
