DENVER, COLO. — January 16, 2017 — McWhinney is pleased to welcome Peter Lauener as its new President. In this role Peter will work closely with the Company leadership on development and future growth.
Peter is a veteran real estate professional with long-standing experience in real estate entitlement and development, including master planned communities, commercial, industrial and residential developments. Peter has worked with three real estate companies during his career and comes to McWhinney as a strong executive with unparalleled leadership and management skills, well equipped to lead McWhinney into the future.
Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Peter’s career path began once he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in 1983 from Whittier College in Southern California. After graduating, Peter worked in the hospitality industry. Following hospitality, he began his career at the Lusk Company where he focused on project management including commercial, residential, resort, industrial and master planned communities. His territory included the Southern California counties of Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego and Ventura.
In 1993 Peter joined Catellus where he managed a portfolio of large master planned communities and led a team that built thousands of homes. He focused on entitling these communities and developing these homes in both the Bay Area and Southern California. Catellus sold the development group in 2002 and at that time Peter elected to accept an opportunity to become President with Intracorp Companies.
At Intracorp, Peter directed all land acquisitions, entitlements, forward planning, business development, long-term vision and strategy for development operations throughout Southern California and Hawaii. Peter started the company from the ground up, successfully guiding Intracorp through the market downturn where he refocused the company’s business plan to be equally divided between home sales, apartment developments, land entitlements and selling entitled parcels of land. Peter’s team consisted of construction, project management, customer service, sales and marketing and finance. Peter believes in utilizing experts for each functional area to ensure project success.
A majority of Peter’s career has been in entitling complex projects across an array of product types. The last 15 years of his career at Intracorp were focused on entitling and building urban residential projects from single family to high density apartments and condos. Over his 30-year career he has overseen large, master-planned projects and built thousands of residential units both for rent and for sale, as well as office, industrial and commercial.
